Jewellery Quarter conversion among RIBA West Midlands shortlist

Annual awards scheme nominates nine regional projects all with a chance of progressing to win the prestigious Stirling Prize later this year

A renovation project to convert a former badge factory in the into offices and apartments has been shortlisted for a regional award.

Sjolander da Cruz Architects' in Tenby Street, is among nine developments (see gallery above) recognised in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) West Midlands Awards 2015.

Last year, Leamington Spa-based Sjolander da Cruz completed their £1.5 million project through its sister company Liv Property to bring new life to the former factory, now branded The Badge Works, after it had sat idle for years.

The RIBA awards celebrate the best new architecture across the region and other shortlisted projects include Middleport Pottery in Stoke and the mixed-use Southwater One scheme in Telford.

All nine buildings will be assessed by a judging panel with winners announced next month.

Regional winners from across the country will then be considered for a RIBA National Award to be announced in June.

The shortlist for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from national award winners later in the year.
