Award-winning film company Ithica Films has expanded its studio after moving its headquarters to a new site in Middlesbrough.

Ithica has now moved into the old Barker and Stonehouse outlet store, in Marsh Street, after moving out of Boho One, where the business originally launched six years ago.

The new site is six times larger than the previous office, giving Ithica 8,000sq ft of space that will include 10 editing suites, a studio, production offices and a creative suite.

To make the former furniture showroom fit for purpose Ithica has stripped back the building and installed a high-speed digital infrastructure, as well as soundproofing and cinematography equipment.

Ithica Films is known for creating films and documentaries for brands. Its client list includes Anglo American, Newcastle Building Society, thyssenkrupp, Port of Middlesbrough, PD Ports, and Venator.

Commenting on the move Matt McGough, managing director of Ithica Films, said: “Our ambition has always been to have our own studio so I’m thrilled to be moving into these new premises and expanding in our home town of Middlesbrough.

“The studio gives us some fantastic new facilities and the flexibility to grow with our North East and national clients, so I’m excited to see how we can utilise the space in a creative way.”

The studio's new headquarters is located close to the Northern School of Art and the company will offer students placements, visits, and mentoring to help them with their careers. The new space will also be available to external production companies and freelancers.
