Construction group ISG has won the contract to fit out a new regional government hub in Birmingham city centre.

3 Arena Central will provide a new home for HM Revenue & Customs' new West Midlands hub as well as staff from the Valuation Office Agency and Department for Work and Pensions.

The building will provide 240,000 sq ft of office space, housing around 3,600 staff across 14 storeys, and neighbour the headquarters of HSBC º£½ÇÊÓƵ which opened in the city in late 2018.

Alongside open-plan office space, there will be meeting room suites, cellular offices, a new basement car park and public amenities.

The project is set to commence in November and be completed by next autumn.

The Government Property Unit is reshaping its estate of buildings and is aiming to reduce the number of sites its staff occupy from around 800 to 200 by 2023.

As part of this process, HMRC is reducing its footprint from 170 offices to 13 regional centres across every part of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and it was announced in 2017 that Arena Central had been chosen for the location of the West Midlands Hub.

"By adopting a framework procurement approach, HMRC has recognised the significant benefits of early contractor engagement and active collaboration to explore and implement the most efficient delivery programmes for these key regional hubs.

"Given the time and space to explore different delivery scenarios and programme approaches, ISG has developed a fast-track schedule, in partnership with our project stakeholders, that maximises efficiencies and community social value outcomes for this keynote scheme."Â
