Plans have been put forward to turn part of the former home of the Derby Telegraph into an indoor go-karting centre.

Go-karting company TeamSport has applied to Derby City Council to turn a section of Northcliffe House, in Meadow Road, into its latest centre.

The Derby Telegraph vacated the premises in 2014, moving to Siddals Road. Since then, parts of the building have been put to various uses.

The 2,354 sq metre section that TeamSport wants to convert used to be home to the newspaper’s print and distribution functions. It is currently occupied by Storage 4U.

TeamSport is the largest indoor go-karting company in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, operating 34 centres in cities such as London, Coventry, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle and Cardiff, predominantly on industrial estates.

If the plans are given the go-ahead, the new centre could create around 30 jobs, including six full-time roles.

In planning documents submitted by Savills, on behalf of TeamSport, it said: “At each of their centres, TeamSport has successful ongoing relationships with their landlords and they also build excellent relationships within the local community.

“All of their employees are recruited from the local area and usually comprise up to 30 staff. Overall TeamSport employ over 900 staff across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.
