Supermarket chain Iceland has signed a 20-year deal to occupy a major distribution centre which is expected to be completed in autumn 2023.

It has become the second company to sign up to the Omega West development, a 184-acre, 2.21 million sq ft extension of Miller Developments' Omega Business Park at Junction 8 of the M62.

The new distribution centre will extend to 505,000 sq ft and work is due to start on site in September.

David Milloy, managing director at Miller Developments, said: "Since we obtained planning consent for Omega West, occupier interest has been very strong.

"We are delighted to have exchanged contracts with Iceland and are pleased they have chosen Omega as the location of their new distribution centre, to support their continued growth."

Iceland's property and acquisitions director Simon Anderson said: "We are very pleased to have secured this building on what is now the North West’s premier logistics park; we look forward to working with Miller and their team on its delivery."
