HungryPanda chooses Birmingham for first retail store

Chinese grocery specialist is planning to launch its first º£½ÇÊÓÆµ shop store in the city

An online Chinese food and groceries delivery business is opening its first store in Birmingham city centre.

HungryPanda, which was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in London, has agreed a five-year deal for 6,799 sq ft of space in Norfolk House in the city's Chinese Quarter.

The launch is the company's first physical retail store as part of plans for a wider expansion across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and globally where it operates in more than 60 cities across ten countries.

Panwen Chen, global head of strategy at HungryPanda, said: "Building on our established reputation in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, HungryPanda is excited to embark on this new strategy, launching and growing our shop and restaurant concept.

"Boasting a large overseas Chinese population, a well-established Chinese Quarter and a vibrant retail and leisure economy on its doorstep, Norfolk House is a prime location and the perfect fit for us.

"We look forward to bringing our new concept to customers in the city later this year."

Elliot Cumming, senior asset manager with the building's landlord London & Scottish Property Investment Management, said: "Norfolk House is located in a prime part of Birmingham city centre.
