Historic hotel poised for revamp after sale

A private investor has acquired the venue in Staffordshire after liquidators were appointed earlier this year

The Castle Hotel in Tamworth has been bought

A historic hotel in the heart of Tamworth has been sold.

The Castle Hotel, a grade II listed property dating back to the 17th century, has been acquired by a private investor intent on refurbishing and reopening the hotel.

The 20,409 sq ft and consultancy Watling Real Estate was instructed to sell the property with vacant possession on behalf of liquidators at BK Plus.

The hotel has 20 bedrooms, two wedding and conferencing suites, a restaurant with seating for approximately 80 covers and a bar formerly known as The Bow Street Runner.

There is also a former nightclub which was granted planning consent in 2022 for change of use into two apartments.

Toby O'Sullivan is a director in Watling Real Estate's Birmingham team.

He said: "The Castle Hotel was a well-known and popular wedding and events venue and we are pleased to have achieved a sale in what is a difficult market for hospitality.
