The Brough South Consortium has appointed civil engineering specialist CR Reynolds Ltd to carry out land raising and groundworks for a new Aldi supermarket at the £200 million development.

The Hessle company was awarded the £1 million contract by the Horncastle Group Plc, the lead developer on the mixed-use residential, retail, leisure, and commercial scheme on the south side of the Hull to Selby railway.

The announcement comes after East Riding Council granted planning permission for the 1,862 sq m supermarket earlier this month on land to the south of Bluebird Way, opposite Hunsley Primary School.

Preparation work on the 2.17-acre site – which will include 136 car parking spaces – is due to get underway imminently, and is expected to last around 16 weeks.

Ian Hodges, managing director of Horncastle Group Plc, said the new Aldi would significantly enhance the retail offer for the residents of Brough, Elloughton, Welton and surrounding areas.

He said: “Aldi is the first of a number of high-profile retail and leisure operators we hope to attract to serve this thriving East Yorkshire town.

“It will bring greater choice to local people as well as creating quality jobs in the retail and leisure sector.

“We’re delighted to appoint CR Reynolds, a large, established, local business to carry out the preparatory work as the company has already played a significant role in Brough South and is very familiar with the development.
