HBD unveils plans for next Birmingham apartment project

Developer is hoping to win backing to build 417 units on former BMW showroom site

CGI of plans for 'Neighbourhood', a proposed new development of 420 apartments at the former BMW Sytner showroom site in Newhall Hill, Birmingham

More than 400 apartments are set to be built at a former car showroom site in Birmingham.

Developer HBD has unveiled £100 million plans for its latest project in the city called 'Neighbourhood' which it says will contain 417 apartments.

The company acquired the former BMW Sytner site in Newhall Hill last year and has now unveiled its proposals for the 2.6-acre site ahead of submitting a planning application.

The new-build development will also contain a winter garden and new public space to host year-round events as well as amenities for residents such as private gardens, roof terraces, social space, gym, lounge, work-from-home areas and concierge.

The application site has been vacant since autumn 2019 after BMW closed down its showroom there.

This is the second project in the Jewellery Quarter for Sheffield-based HDB which is also leading the Setl scheme in Ludgate Hill to create 101 apartments and which is due to complete in summer 2023.

Director Simon Raiye said: "This is a fantastic site and an important gateway into the city's historic Jewellery Quarter.
