A gym equipment supplier has transformed a former colliery building into its new headquarters – after relocating from the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Staffs Fitness has moved its 25-strong workforce from Springfield Road in Leek to a 10-acre site off City Road in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.
The company took over the premises in June 2017, but the site was officially opened this month.
The move is part of a major expansion plan to increase its manufacturing and distribution operations – and win new clients.
Managing director Gareth McKay, who founded the business almost 30 years ago, said: “Historically this building is one of the old Fenton colliery buildings, but it was most recently occupied by Koch-Glitsch.
“Before we moved here, it wasn’t being used to its full potential so we have been able to design it how we want it. We have modernised it and reconfigured the space.
“It has been a significant investment for us.”
Staffs Fitness’ new site boasts a brand new office space, a warehouse, kitchen areas and a showroom.

The company, which sells a wide range of fitness equipment – including its own Myo Strength brand - has also refurbished a handful of other units on the site, which it rents out to other local businesses.
So far it has five tenants on the site with plans in place to construct more buildings in the future.
Operations director Nicki McKay, added: “It is a great space and we have got enough room to be able to expand into as we grow.
“We have got five and 10-year growth targets and have the ambition to keep growing. We have a great team of people, they are a hard-working and dedicated workforce.”
Staffs Fitness supplies equipment to independent gyms and leisure centres, universities and schools across the 海角视频 and Europe – in countries such as France and Poland as well as Israel and Africa. Around 30 per cent of its current business is export.
Stoke-on-Trent South MP Jack Brereton was invited to officially open Staffs Fitness’ new headquarters last week.
He said: “It is fantastic to see a building like this, which was practically derelict, regenerated and brought back into use and that some of the original features have been retained.
“It is also great to see that the company is supporting other local businesses who have been able to move onto the site.”
