Property advisor GVA has been appointed to attract new tenants to The Mailbox complex in Birmingham.

The mixed-use leisure and retail destination is aimed at transforming the built environment and remodelling its tenant mix.

The programme, due for completion next spring, includes the opening of an Everyman Cinema and the transformation of the existing retail space to be anchored by a new 45,000 sq ft Harvey Nichols.

GVA, which with the real estate arm of engineering group Bilfinger, has been appointed as joint agent alongside London-based retail specialists Nash Bond.

Earlier this month, the Post was to be created at The Mailbox as part of the refurbishment project.

GVA director Alastair Robertson-Dunn said: "The Mailbox is one of the highest profile mixed-use developments in the West Midlands and we are naturally delighted to be able to provide our extensive expertise and knowledge of the regional retail and leisure sectors.

"Our appointment represents GVA's approach as a national agency with a strong and in-depth understanding of the key regional markets, and our ability to target independent and strong regional retailers.

"The average retail spend in Birmingham is second only to London, with over £2.43 billion spent annually.
