Green light for phase one of 4,000-home scheme

Land off Cawston Lane in Rugby where L&Q Estates will build 210 houses

The first phase of a major residential development which is set to create around 360 jobs has been given outline consent.

The 34-acre project in Rugby will see 210 houses and a new primary school built on land off Cawston Lane and will also include open space, play areas, a woodland buffer and highways improvements.

Warwick-based developer L&Q Estates has won the consent from Rugby Borough Council for the properties, ranging from two to five bedrooms, after finalising Section 106 contributions.

It is the first part of a much-wider scheme known as 'Homestead View' which could see up to 4,000 houses built in the Warwickshire town.

The company said It is expected to provide a huge economic boost to Rugby, contributing an estimated £4.4 million per year on retail and leisure.

More than 300 jobs will be created in the construction phase and 60 permanent jobs in the school, while L&Q Estates is also providing more than £6.3 million in Section 106 contributions to enhance the local community which includes £1.9 million towards education.
