Plans to create a new medical facility at the former BBC Pebble Mill Studios site in Birmingham have been given the green light.

Developer and land owner Calthorpe Estates is building a new cancer treatment centre as part of its Edgbaston Medical Quarter project on the land off the A38 Bristol Road.

The 'building 4' plot will house a new cancer treatment operator and oral theatre suite for local and national patients in a five-storey block containing 114,000 sq ft of space.

Once completed, the complex will join other new developments at the site including Birmingham Dental Hospital & School of Dentistry and a 62-bedroom Bupa care home.

A new private hospital to be run by Circle Health is scheduled to open in the coming months.

Birmingham Business - Review of the Year 2019

Ralph Minott, development director of Calthorpe Estates, said: "This is a significant step for Edgbaston Medical Quarter as we aim to realise our ambitions of introducing more truly world-class facilities to the area.

"For over five years, we have held an ambition to find the right home for a leading operator to support cancer incidence, treatment and survival.

"With over 360,000 new cases of cancer in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ each year, we believe building 4 will offer the flexibility needed to accommodate and realise this ambition.
