Developer Moda Group has secured planning permission for the next phase of the New Garden Square project in Birmingham.

The second phase of the scheme in Hagley Road will comprise 462 apartments for rent alongside amenities such as a gym, co-working space and roof terrace.

Plans for the 37-storey development were submitted in January and have been approved at the latest meeting of Birmingham City Council's planning committee.

Harrogate-based Moda is working with landowner Calthorpe Estates on the development in Edgbaston.

The long-term aim for New Garden Square is to have 2,400 new homes in a mix of tenures as well as a park and retail space across 11 acres.

The first phase, called Loudon's Yard, contains 398 units to rent and has just opened. More than 400 new jobs will be created by New Garden Square.

Moda is behind other projects in Birmingham including The Mercian in Broad Street and a project currently under construction on the former Ludgate Hill Car Park in the Jewellery Quarter.
