The giant former aluminium works at Holyhead and multi-million pound recycling equipment are up for sale following the collapse of Orthios.
Orthios officially took over the Anglesey Aluminium site in Holyhead in 2016 after smelting came to an end in 2009. It built a materials recycling facility (MRF) and was in the process of developing a Plastics-to-Oil (P-2-O) unit.
But Business Live revealed last month that firms had been in touch about outstanding invoices and days later the business collapsed with up to 100 staff losing their jobs. Begbies Traynor were appointed as administrator by the main investor.
Now the assets of Orthios (Anglesey) Technologies Limited and its subsidiaries, Orthios Feedstock (Anglesey) Limited and Orthios Otech 5 Limited, have been put up for sale by the joint administrators. The 230 acre site is also available - either as a package with the assets - or sold separately.

Asher Miller, a joint administrator from Begbies Traynor, said: “This is a rare chance to acquire a valuable and near-complete green technology asset.
“Although further investment is required to complete the facility, it presents potential buyers an attractive opportunity to enter this fast growing and exciting sector.”
The assets include a complete Plastics Depolymerisation Unit (PDU) on the site of the old aluminium smelting works.

Mr Miller added: “While the plant’s completion and commissioning is still required, this exciting opportunity within a growing sector includes the part-complete Plastics to Oil Facility with an anticipated output of 26,280 tonnes of plastic to 16.5million litres of oil.
“To date, the estimated development spend is in the region of £21.6million. Alongside this opportunity, the associated Material Recycling Facility designed to provide feedstock for the Plastic to Oil Plant and 230-acre former aluminium works on which the operations are housed will be included.
“The site, which is available separately is unique in the region, benefits from excellent road, rail and sea transport links, and includes a multitude of multi-purpose buildings, large areas of hard-standing, its own switching yard and 24-hour security and is set within acres of wildlife habitat and natural scenery.”
The plant and business is being marketed for sale by the Plant and Machinery team at Eddisons. No price is currently stated.
