A quartet of Wilko stores in the West Midlands will close next week, resulting in 74 redundancies.

Administrators at PwC have confirmed the shops in Stafford (20 staff) and Brownhills (15 staff) will close on Tuesday followed by Walsall (30 staff) and Uttoxeter (nine staff) on Thursday.

The four stores are part of a portfolio of 52 across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to shut down next week, resulting in 1,016 shop-based staff being made redundant.

Distribution centres in Worksop and Newport will close tomorrow, resulting in almost 300 redundancies, following the high street homeware retailer collapsing in August.

Administrators have entered into an agreement to provide discount retailer B&M with the option to acquire up to 51 properties after the administration trading period concludes at those particular sites in a deal worth up to £13 million.

A statement from PwC said: "We continue to explore all interest in the remainder of the business and are actively working with potential buyers.

"It has become clear from these discussions that some stores do not form part of any ongoing interest in the Wilko portfolio.
