Former Tesco store to be reborn as new office complex

Broadway building at Five Ways island will be converted into two floors of office space to sit alongside new residential development

The old Tesco store in Ladywood Middleway could be turned into offices under new plans

A former supermarket and café in which closed down last year is to be reborn as a new office development.

The Tesco and Costa Coffee in the Broadway building at Five Ways island is to be converted into new office space.

Tesco the shop at a time when it was battling huge company debt.

The unit, in Ladywood Middleway, had faced competition from its own, much larger store at Spring Hill island which opened in 2010 and the Morrisons in nearby Hagley Road which launched in 2012.

The ground and first floors of Broadway will be turned into office space and 21 parking spaces will be allocated in the neighbouring multi-storey car park.

Work is nearing completion on redevelopment of the rest of the building to sit alongside the incumbent offices which are let to the Government.

Colmore Tang Construction, which led the redevelopment of Auchinleck House is behind the revamp of Broadway.

Managing director Andy Robinson said: "The space is fantastic and we see this an opportunity for additional quality office space in the Five Ways area.
