Former Rolls-Royce site could become industrial estate

Derby site is of a 'size and location such that it could accommodate a large variety of uses'

The former Osmaston Road Rolls-Royce site

A former Rolls-Royce site could be turned into an industrial estate under new plans being considered.

The 9 acre former foundry site, off Osmaston Road, Derby, has been derelict for more than a decade and has become a target for fly-tipping.

A planning application shows the nine buildings would be split into 18 units, which could be available for commercial use, offices, storage and distribution.

One unit has been designed for Derby City Council to park and maintain its refuse lorries. Another part of the site could be used as a contractors yard, while another part could be used by Tarmac.

Separate planning applications have already been submitted to build 60 flats to the south of the site and convert a building to the north into a heritage museum.

Ivygrove chairman Kohn Blount is managing the project which will be called Merlin Park.

He said: “Rolls- Royce wants to see its site reutilised in a way which benefits the local community and Ivygrove is skilled at delivering the type of regeneration project that is perfect for this site.

“We are particularly pleased to have agreed an innovative acquisition package with Rolls Royce which specifically focusses on benefits for the local area. In addition, having carried out many similar projects across the city, we know the scheme will create jobs.
