A vacant former pub site which has consent for a new care home has been sold. MACC Care Group has acquired the 1.4-acre plot in Shirley in an undisclosed deal and now plans to build a new 72-bedroom home.

It will employ around 90 staff and facilities will include a specialist dementia ward, hair and nail salon, coffee room, cinema and virtual reality room plus an infection-controlled visiting area.

A courtyard garden will also be built along with an area of green space for farming which will allow residents to grow fruit and vegetables and keep livestock.

The development site, in High Street, was previously home

The care home is the latest planned development by Edgbaston-based MACC Care which already has a number of purpose-built homes in the Midlands.

Gerald Manton, managing director of Birmingham-based GNM Developments which sold the land, said: "We are delighted that MACC Care Group has purchased our latest development site in Shirley.

"GNM has several development opportunities in the pipeline and looks forward to bringing these forward."
