Former police station brought forward as resort residential development

Cleethorpes' 87-year-old station is on the market with 18-home plan featuring mix of remodelling and new build

A multi-million pound development featuring 18 new homes has been proposed for a former police station in Cleethorpes.

Recently vacated, the one acre site on Prince's Road - used for 87 years - is seen as a prime location for residential development, sitting close to the seafront and resort's train station.

Owner Humberside Police has worked with an architect to bring forward an indicative proposal, while pan-Humber commercial property consultancy Clark Weightman, handling the sale, said other possibilities could be explored.

As such no guide price has been set.

Carl Bradley, director at Clark Weightman, said: “This is an exciting redevelopment opportunity. Cleethorpes remains extremely popular from a residential perspective and this scheme offers a fantastic opportunity for a developer to take the site forward.

“The proposed scheme is excellent, but I’m sympathetic to the fact that a developer may have their own ideas in terms of site layout and design. This is a mixed residential area with traditional terraced and semi detached housing, but also the more recent St Joseph’s Court apartment development opposite.

“The proposed scheme allows for residents and visitors parking but the site also benefits from good links to public transport making it very sustainable.”

Jonathan Smith Architects, of Beverley, had worked up a proposal, retaining the locally listed frontage on, while completely rebuilding to the rear, with access also enjoyed off Poplar Road.
