A former National Grid facility in Avonmouth, near Bristol, is being transformed into Britain’s biggest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage terminal.

Gas supplier Flogas Britain is behind the plans for the site, which will be able to store 34,564 tonnes of LPG when finished.

The facility is at design stage and will be converted by contractor TGE Gas Engineering as part of a £40million investment by Flogas.

Work on the site is expected to start in early 2021, with a full takeover planned for the summer of 2022.

When complete, the terminal will be filled and operationally ready by winter 2022, according to Flogas.

Lee Gannon, Flogas Britain’s managing director, said: “The conversion of Avonmouth marks the largest single investment for Flogas Britain and symbolises our growth ambitions and aspirations.

“It will create an unparalleled, dependable nationwide supply of LPG.”

According to Flogas, the terminal will increase the company’s storage capability and will improve the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s gas infrastructure.
