A global engineering consultancy has returned to the South West with the opening of a new Bristol office.
Vysus Group, formerly the energy division of historic maritime, science and engineering consultancy Lloyd’s Register (LR), has completed a move into the Castlemead office building in the city centre.
The company, which was sold off by LR in 2020 to London investment firm Inspirit Capital, said it will use its new base as a strategic hub for its work in the offshore wind industry.
It represents something of a return to the region for Vyus, which when it was operating as LR Energy had an office in Bath for many years.
A team of 11 will be based in the new Bristol base, including two new starters, with further recruitment planned as the office expands in what the firm described will be a “core location” for the business.
Vice president of survey and geo-engineering Michael Cousins has relocated to Bristol from Vysus’ headquarters in Aberdeen, to manage the development of the business and “significantly grow” the technical team.
Mr Cousins said: “The South West of England is becoming a key hub for the offshore wind industry, with many developers, contractors and consultants located in Bristol and through the M4 corridor to London.
“There is a great pool of personnel talent located here which will undoubtedly support our plans to significantly extend our technical team.”
Vyus also has technical teams in Aberdeen, the US and Australia, while it said it is also looking to establish a presence in the Asia Pacific region.
Mr Cousins added: “We are particularly excited to be at the forefront of the rapidly developing offshore wind sector in the Ƶ and Europe and look forward to playing a leading role within the renewable energy community located here in Bristol.”
