The former headquarters of Welsh language channel S4C in Cardiff is being turned into an apartment scheme.

The listed Victorian built 32 Cathedral Road, with its modern office section at the rear running along Sophia Close, is being turned into 17 apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms.

The property, with planning consent for an apartment conversion, has been acquired by Complete Project Development. The apartment scheme will be the Bristol firm's first project in Wales.

The building was put up for sale with a £1.5m price tag. It was marketed by Cardiff-based property advisory firm Fletcher Morgan and received eight offers from residential developers, apartment-hotel operators and investors.

Fletcher Morgan acted for the seller of the property SLA Property.

Demolition of the non listed section of the building will start next week. The apartments are scheduled for completion next summer.

Indicative prices range from up to £200,000 for a one bedroom apartment and £450,000 for a three bedroom apartment.

The building served as the HQ for S4C when it was launched back in the early 1980s.
