Former Birmingham restaurant undergoes office conversion

Office Principles is leading the scheme to deliver new grade A office accommodation in the city centre

Rum Runner Works at Regency Wharf is being converted into new offices

A former restaurant in Birmingham city centre is being converted into new grade A office space.

The Rum Runner Works building in Regency Wharf, off Broad Street, is being turned into 16,180 sq ft of new space across two floors.

It was most recently home to restaurant Jimmy Spices which has moved to an adjoining building and is now undergoing a wholesale renovation led by Office Principles on behalf of landlord Picton Property Income.

Among the work planned are floor to ceiling heights, including a double-height reception area, while partition walls will be removed on the top floor to create an open mezzanine with an internal balustrade.

There will also be new bicycle storage, shower facilities, private external terraces and a central courtyard offering space for events and functions overlooking Gas Street Basin.

Rum Runner Works sits next to the site of the former nightclub of the same name which was founded in the 1960s and played host for gigs and rehearsal sessions to UB40 and Dexys Midnight Runners.

It was demolished in 1987 to make way for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bridge Street.
