Former Birmingham regeneration chief Clive Dutton dies

Tributes paid to man who worked on Library of Birmingham development and 2012 Olympic legacy project

'A tour de force for Birmingham' - Clive Dutton who has died aged 62

The former head of regeneration in Birmingham who worked on projects such as The Cube and Library of Birmingham has died aged 62.

Clive Dutton OBE was a well-known figure within Birmingham's business community during his time as director of regeneration and planning for Birmingham City Council - a role he left in 2009 to move to London to work on the 2012 Olympic regeneration legacy.

He also helped to re-shape the regeneration of west Belfast following the signing of the Good Friday Agreement by producing the 'Dutton Report'.

Mr Dutton received the OBE for services to urban regeneration in 1998. Tributes have been paid today following his death on Saturday.

Writing on the Millennium Point website today, chief executive Philip Singleton called him an indefatigable man who finished his working day later than anyone he knew.

The pair worked together for six years at Birmingham City Council and the Olympic regeneration project in Newham, a period Mr Singleton called "intense".

"Such is the manner of city planning, Clive's ideas are fulfilled and often completed by others. Every day I look at Birmingham and I see the library, New Street station, Arena Central, Paradise Circus and the Golden Square," he wrote.

"(At) Eastside City Park, we failed in a Big Lottery bid to fund the new park and that day Clive burst into the council chief exec's office and came out with the money to pay for it.
