A former Barclays bank building in Blackwood could be transformed into ten "high-quality" flats.

The High Street branch closed its doors in 2024, though some services have continued at the town's Libanus Lifestyle centre.

Blueprints submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council reveal plans to convert the bank's "prominent" former premises at 85 High Street into residential units.

BlueSky Property Developments Ltd's application aims to "maximise the potential of this centrally located building, providing ten high-quality residential flats in place of outdated commercial spaces", a design statement says.

The proposed redevelopment also "responds to local housing demand, enhances the vitality of the High Street, and introduces limited but valuable private parking", the statement by Dell Designs Ltd adds.

Other documents supporting then plans indicate the proposed flats would be distributed across the five-storey building.

Three flats each would occupy the ground and first floors, while the second floor would accommodate two flats. A flat is also planned for the attic level and the lower ground floor.

Initial plans for the site were submitted in March, with further supporting information provided to the council in July.

A decision on planning permission is still pending.
