A Powys-based residential property development firm has started work on its first commercial scheme in Wales, while its group construction sister company is delivering two social projects for Welsh housing association Barcud.

Welshpool-based SJ Roberts Homes, which to date has focused on residential schemes over the border in Shropshire, is delivering a 29 new home development in Newtown for which its sister company will provide their timber frames.

The homes will be a variety of semi-detached and detached dwellings ranging in size from one-, through to four-bedroom properties. All will be available for sale on the open market.

Mike Sambrook of SJ Roberts Homes, said: “As a local developer, this is an exciting opportunity for SJ Roberts Homes to provide a range of homes at this fantastic location on the edge of Newtown.”

SJ Roberts Homes, part of the SJ Roberts Group, was established in 2016 and has since delivered several developments across Shropshire. Its most scheme, Allscott Meads, is located between Shrewsbury and Telford on the site of a former sugar beet factory.

Mr Sambrook said: “The homes that we will be delivering at Penson Gardens in Newtown have been carefully designed by our own in-house team and will be built using timber frames manufactured by our sister company, Lowfield Timber Frames.

“We cannot wait to get started and to show potential purchasers everything that this new development will offer.”

The scheme is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026.
