First phase of Birmingham's Art.quarter project to launch

New barber salon will create ten jobs in regenerated former paper mill in Digbeth

The first phase of a new small business complex in Birmingham city centre will open its doors in October.

Art.Barbers will launch at the Art.Quarter complex which has been developed in a former paper mill in Allison Street, Digbeth.

The new venture will create ten jobs and is partnering with men's grooming store American Crew to provide training and products and online booking app Booksy to boost customer bookings.

Art.Quarter, plans for which were unveiled earlier this year, will have 20,000 sq of space across three storeys and will contain a mix of retailers and business including a street food hall, bakery, coffee shop and gallery alongside events and co-working space.

It is the brainchild of former hairdresser and club night promoter Jordan Patel who has spent two years transforming the site which was due to open in April but has been delayed by coronavirus.

Mr Patel said: "It's great to be able to offer a beacon of hope in these extremely trying times for the city.

"Coronavirus has had such a massive impact on the high-street so to be in a position to open a business in this time and provide both employment and training to this number of people in the process, is a real blessing."
