Construction work is well under way on a new manufacturing plant in the West Midlands which is set to create 250 new jobs.

US firm Fortune Brands Innovations makes products for use in the home such as doors and security systems, showers and bathroom taps.

It is creating the new plant on the i54 South Staffordshire industrial estate near Wolverhampton which is intended to support the company's expansion plans in the luxury kitchen and bathroom sector.

It said the 270,000 sq ft, tech-enhanced facility represented a significant investment in British manufacturing that would provide capacity to service the company's global customers for many years going forward.

The site is due to be operational by the end of this year and will act as a Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters for its so-called 'water innovations' portfolio. Among the facilities are a customer experience centre and training facility.

Fortune Brands Innovations, which is headquartered in Illinois and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is the first tenant to take up space on the new 'western extension' on i54.

General manager Steve Geary said: "This investment reflects our continued commitment to the luxury ceramics and brassware sectors and we are hugely excited about the project. This new facility will allow us to better service our customers and facilitate future growth."
