The family behind a Michelin-starred restaurant has put one of its venues that featured on The Trip with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon up for sale.

The Wildsmith Group has handed a £3m price tag to Kirkby Lonsdale-based Hipping Hall, which closed its doors on July 24.

The fine dining restaurant first opened around two decades ago. It rose to fame after featuring on The Trip in 2010 and has been recognised with a three-AA-rosette award.

It now has 15 bedrooms as well as a fine dining restaurant for up to 30 covers. It also features around 4.75 acres of landscaped gardens.

The sale comes after the group put The Ryebeck Hotel in Windermere up for sale in May for over £3m.

The group still operates Forest Side in Grasmere, which has one Michelin star.

Andrew Wildsmith said: "It has been an absolute pleasure bringing guests to this beautiful part of the world over the last two decades and providing them with first-class hospitality. Hipping Hall still holds so much potential, and I look forward to seeing what’s next for this magnificent building."

Joel Osbourne, broker at Christie & Co who is handling the sale, added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for a new owner to acquire a unique property in an idyllic setting, with the potential to take the current business forward or introduce a new concept.

"There is also a parcel of land, available by separate negotiation, which offers scope for development, subject to the necessary planning permissions."
