A build-to-rent developer has acquired a riverside site in Bristol city centre for an undisclosed sum and is planning to build 300 homes. Platform said it would now progress with a planning application for the 1.8-acre plot near Cabot Circus, overlooking the River Frome.
The proposed development on Eugene Street, which will include employment space on the ground floor, would take the number of build-to-rent schemes in Bristol to five.
The site has been earmarked for residential development in the Bristol City Council’s Frome Gateway Spatial Regeneration Framework.

Platform is targeting planning submission to the local authority in January 2025. The company will hold a series of stakeholder and community consultation events before this, it said.
The plans for the scheme also include a new riverside walk and a pocket park.
Stewart Knight, acquisitions director at Platform, said: “We are delighted to have secured a site in Bristol as the city has been at the top of our target list for a long time.
“We were attracted by the combination of a strong local economy, excellent demographics and a real shortage of high quality, well-managed rental accommodation. We’re looking forward to working with the city’s planners to bring forward a planning application to deliver much needed new housing.”
Jean-Marc Vandevivere, chief executive at Platform, added: “We are very excited to have secured this riverside site in Bristol city centre. This is a unique opportunity for Platform to deliver over 300 quality homes contributing to the provision of much-needed housing required by this dynamic and growing city."
