Developers have gained planning permission to update the oldest pub in the north Nottinghamshire town

An abandoned pub is set to undergo a £1 million makeover to turn it into 15 new apartments, with shared kitchens.

The Old Blue Bell in Lammas Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, has been empty for the past decade.

Sleek Developments has gained planning permission to update the 1730 building – the oldest pub in the north Nottinghamshire town.

The pub was bought by the Nottingham property developer in July 2020, and negotiations have taken place with Ashfield District Council and heritage and conservation officers to ensure the character of the building is retained.

Sleek Developments director Shamraiz Younas said the 15 studio homes will be built over two floors. Each will be open plan with a main living area, kitchenette and bedroom area with en-suite.

There will be communal kitchens be on each floor.

Mr Younas said: “The building has been empty for 10 years and is in bad disrepair but structurally sound.

“We are providing 15 modern and fully furnished apartments for young professional singles or couples.
