Dandara launches consultation into riverside 3,000-homes plan

Developer unveils designs for phase one of project which could see new residential block reach 29 storeys

Dandara Living has launched a public consultation into its Warners Fields development in Digbeth

A public consultation has been launched into a new residential development in Birmingham which will be centred around a revitalised River Rea and could reach up to 29 storeys.

Developer Dandara Living has opened the consultation and released new images of its plans to create a riverside neighbourhood in Digbeth called Warners Fields as a nod to the area's rich history and early industrial past.

The application site is to the south of the huge Smithfield regeneration plot on industrial land bounded by Moseley Street, Lombard Street, MacDonald Street and Barford Street where Dandara is hoping to build a total of 3,000 residential units, flexible workspaces, shops, restaurants and public realm.

Initially branded 'Cheapside' when it was first unveiled during the summer, the first phase of Warners Fields will include around 1,300 homes to rent which will be built and managed by Dandara.

A series of buildings will range in height from six to 29 storeys next to a proposed linear park in Moseley Street.

The first phase will also include the Henry Bradford Centre which has been designed to support start-ups and small businesses and whose name is a nod to the 18th century landowner and business figure who helped bring trade to this part of Birmingham.

There will also be the Apollo Building which will have cycle storage, bike repairs, vehicle sharing, electric vehicle charging, residents' parking and a gym.
