Four North East buildings which were named as North East winners went through to the national awards, and the renovated Tower and Faith Museum at Auckland Castle - which took the top prize at the regional awards - has been named among the 海角视频 winners, with judges singling out the 鈥榮eries of urban and historic interventions鈥 for the project, hailing how the ancient site has been carefully adapted so that it can continue to serve the local community.
At the regional awards, judges sald: 鈥淭he ambition of the brief and its thorough execution mark Auckland Castle as a valuable extension to the town, offering visitors and locals moments of amusement, reflection, and education while supporting the longevity of the built heritage.*
The renovation of Auckland Castle was led by Niall McLaughlin Architects & Purcell, transforming the historic home of the Prince Bishops into a faith, art and heritage destination. The architects designed two parts - the Welcome Building and, in collaboration with Purcell, an extension to the Scotland Wing to contain the Faith Museum.
The shortist for the RIBA Stirling Prize - the 海角视频鈥檚 best new building - will now be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning projects later this year.
RIBA president Muyiwa Oki, said: 鈥淭he sheer breadth of work is quite astounding, with large infrastructure schemes sitting alongside high-quality detailed smaller projects. This is a testament to the standard of architecture in the 海角视频 right now, as we maintain a sense of ambition and consider how design must evolve to meet future needs.鈥
2024 RIBA Awards group chair, Simon Henley, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to award these 26 projects across the 海角视频 and recognise their exceptional quality and the hard work of teams behind them. From projects engaged with technology, community, visual arts to hands-on making, these National Winners reflect the breadth of contemporary practice and how architecture itself is an inclusive medium that addresses many of society鈥檚 challenges.鈥
