A Northumberland construction company has been appointed to build a new 80-bedroom Premier Inn hotel in Alnwick.

Cramlington-based Compass Developments (NE) Ltd will start work on the national chain’s new hotel next month, at the Willowburn Trading Estate in Alnwick.

Old industrial buildings on the Willowburn site have already been demolished to make way for building work, which is expected to sustain scores of jobs. The new hotel is set to open in June 2022.

Plans put forward by developer Northumberland Estates, acting on behalf of Northern Commercial Properties Ltd, were granted planning permission last year.

The new hotel will provide 80 bedrooms with an in-house bar and restaurant, plus a car park.

Barry Spall, development planner with Northumberland Estates, said: “Northumberland is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination, attracting a wide range of visitors, families, couples as well as larger groups and for everything from short breaks to longer stays.

“The addition of a well-known brand such as Premier Inn, which is consistently voted the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s favourite hotel brand and is known for offering great service, value, dependability and consistency for leisure and business travellers, adds an extra dimension to the accommodation offer in the town.
