Construction chief resigns from top role at £176m firm

Chairman expresses disappointment as Bob Vickers leaves Clugston Group after barely two years at the helm

Clugston Group’s chief executive has resigned, having told the board the next phase of the Scunthorpe construction-focused giant’s development requires different leadership.

Bob Vickers, who joined in early 2017, arrived from Carillion Construction Services, prior to its high profile collapse.

Glynn Thomas has been appointed as interim group chief executive. He has a background in construction, as well as facilities services, in both public and private sector organisations.

Mr Vickers had previously worked for Wimpey Construction, Morrisons, Anglian Water Group, Gleeson Building and Balfour Beatty.

In his first full year at the St Vincent House headquartered firm, which also has strong logistics, facility management and property interests, the , shrugging off a “small loss” as it restructured to cope with the growth, ensuring a sustainable future.

He restructured the group, oversaw changes to the senior management team and created a new operating platform for each of the company’s business units.

He succeeded long-serving chief Stephen Martin, who headed to London as director general of the Institute of Directors.

A statement released today told how he left the business on June 30 by mutual consent, having tendered his resignation.
