Retail giant is launching new On The Go brand aimed at shoppers looking for speed and convenience

Co-op On The Go store in High Street, Solihull

Retail group Co-op has launched the first of a new style of store for the brand in the West Midlands.

The company has opened a Co-op On The Go micro store in High Street, Solihull, as part of a planned national rollout.

The new-look shops will be around a quarter of the size of its typical convenience supermarkets, operate from 7am to 7pm and stock produce aimed at 'grab-and-go' customers.

These will include items for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a deli and a hot-food counter which is a first for the Manchester-based Co-op.

The next phase for the Solihull store will see it cook pizzas on site and deliver them to customers at home.

The new-look portfolio of shops will be located in areas of high foot traffic, with 15 expected to open over the coming months and potentially several hundred over the next two to three years.

Matt Hood, managing director of Co-op Food, said: "We are always looking at new ways to deliver convenience to our members and customers and these new stores are a perfect example of us using our expertise to refine our 'on-the-go' offer so it is focused on giving shoppers exactly what they need, when they need it.
