The Celtic Manor Resort adds to its portfolio with latest hotel acquisition

It has acquired the former Hampton at Hilton hotel in Magor

The Ty Hotel at Magor

The five star Celtic Manor Resort in Newport has added to its portfolio with a new hotel acquisition.

The resort, where the £83m International Convention Centre Wales will open later this year, has added to its offer with the acquisition of the former Hampton at Hilton Hotel at Magor.

The value of the deal for the 129-bedroom hotel, which is five miles from the Celtic Manor Resort, has not been disclosed.

The hotel has been rebranded Ty Hotel as the latest addition to the Celtic Manor Collection portfolio, that also includes the main resort hotel with its adjoining Manor House, the Coldra Court by Celtic Manor (based in Newport) and the Newbridge on Usk country inn restaurant.

The Celtic Manor will also operate a new hotel, just yards from the Principality Stadium, in the centre of Cardiff. Subject to planning consent the 175-bedroom venue, at the site of the adjoining and listed former Post Office and County Court buildings on Westgate Street, will open in December 2020.

The project is a joint venture between the Welsh Rugby Union and property development firm Rightacres.

Celtic Manor Resort chief  executive Ian Edwards said: “We are delighted to be expanding The Celtic Collection with the creation of this Tŷ Hotel at the former Hampton by Hilton at Magor.

“It is exciting to be launching this new brand which will be a fantastic addition to our portfolio of properties. Tŷ will offer something different to what we provide at the Celtic Manor Resort and our existing hotels.
