An award ceremony for the Midlands property sector set to take place this week has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

The British Council for Offices’ 2020 Midlands and Central England Awards were scheduled to be held at the ICC in Birmingham tomorrow and be hosted by broadcaster John Sergeant.

The annual awards celebrate the best office projects across six different categories including best fit out and best refurbished project, with winners from all the regional divisions put forward to be crowned national champions later in the year.

The BCO has not yet announced whether the ceremony will be rearranged.

A statement from the British Council for Offices said: “Due to the risk posed by covid-19, we have, with much regret, decided to cancel the British Council for Offices’ Annual Midlands and Central England Awards lunch due to take place on March 20.

“The health and safety of our membership is of the utmost importance to us and it would be not appropriate to hold such an event at this time.

“We are taking stock of the situation and assessing all next steps with regards to this event.

“Award winners will not be announced this Friday but will at a later stage.”
