A Bristol hotel is hoping it can stage some of the city’s most high-profile events and conferences as it begins a £100,000 refurbishment and extension of its ballroom.

Hilton’s DoubleTree hotel on Redcliffe Way in the city centre is looking to become only the third residential venue in Bristol that can accommodate more than 300 people for an event.

Work is due to start at the 206-bedroom in hotel in September and will take around five weeks to complete.

The hotel said IT and electrical upgrades would be carried out as part of the revamp as well as new windows to allow more natural light.

The venue’s general manager, Imran Ali, said the significant investment was “a real vote of confidence” in it from its owners and addressed a need for large conference space in the city.

Mr Ali said hotels in the city received a “good volume” of inquiries about staging large business events, and that the hotel’s upgrade and location would make the venue a “desirable choice” for organisations.

Mr Ali said: “We’ve had an extremely busy past three months, which has been great, but the corporate business has been softer so far.

“But as that starts to pick up again post-pandemic, this significant investment in our hotel will put us in the perfect position to be able to attract that corporate business.”
