A former office block in Bristol city centre that is undergoing an £11million transformation into luxury flats has launched onto the property market.

Housebuilder Acorn Property Group bought up Alliance House on Baldwin Street in April and is planning to turn the upper floors into 44 studio and one-bedroom apartments.

The five-storey building currently has a number of shops and food outlets on the ground floor, which will stay as retail space, Acorn said.

Work on the new homes, which start at £150,000, is expected to start “imminently”, according to Acorn, with construction set to finish by the end of 2021.

Each property will have wood-effect flooring, white-tiled bathrooms and fitted kitchens with integrated appliances, the housebuilder said.

The development will also have secure bike storage for residents and a video-entry system.

The Victorian building - formerly known as the Dunlop Building - was originally constructed in 1881 as new premises for local wine merchants Dunlop, Mackie & Co.

The merchants used the premises to prepare and ship their wine, Champagne and spirits around the world, according to Acorn.
