Boston Tea Party to open another Birmingham restaurant

Chain which stoked the ire of Moseley locals last year has now turned its attention to historic Edgbaston estate

A restaurant group which controversially planned to open in Moseley before dropping the project earlier this year is now eyeing a new site on the Calthorpe Estate.

Boston Tea Party is working with the owner of the historic Edgbaston estate to launch a new venue in the former offices of NatWest Bank in Harborne Road.

The project would see the ground floor of the vacant building, which dates back to the late 1800s, converted into a restaurant while the two floors above would be refurbished and retained as offices.

The restaurant will have an outside seating area fronting onto Harborne Road, an orangery to the rear and its own car park and is expected to create the equivalent of 25 full-time jobs.

Boston Tea Party, which was founded in Bristol in 1995 and already has sites in Birmingham city centre and Harborne, sells a broad range of food such as cooked breakfasts, soups, burgers and salads.

Last year, it announced much to the consternation of locals keen to see the village's independent sector preserved.

The group eventually withdrew its application, citing issues with works not being completed, only to be replaced in

This latest venue will feed into the wider 'Edgbaston Village' project by property owner and developer Calthorpe Estates.
