Plans have been submitted to transform the former Post Office in Bolton into apartments.

The purpose-built Post Office - designed by the architect Charles P. Wilkinson - was opened in November 1916.

But it closed its doors in August 2018 and the Post Office moved to a new location on Oxford Street.

Now Mandale Homes Ltd has submitted plans to convert the building into 48 apartments.

Agent ELG Planning said: "The scale of the existing building will remain unchanged with the exception of alterations on the third floor to increase the roof height to enable the provision of additional apartments.

"The current application proposals represent a high-quality form of development that respond positively to local character in terms of scale, massing, height, layout and materials."

The proposal has been submitted to Bolton Council.
