Birmingham's massive Peddimore scheme set to win city's backing

City council planning chiefs will debate the project at their meeting next week when they are expected to award it the green light

Birmingham's planning chiefs are expected to award consent to the Peddimore project next week

Planning chiefs in Birmingham are set to give the green light to major industrial development in the north of the city next week.

The 'Peddimore' project covers 175 acres of land near Sutton Coldfield which business leaders hope will create up to 6,500 new jobs and support a further 3,000 across the West Midlands.

In January, Solihull-based developer IM Properties council-owned land.

It comprises an outline application with all matters reserved for an employment park including offices, service yards, parking for HGVs, cars and cycles and other landscaping and infrastructure work.

These will be constructed across four separate development zones which are expected to total around 2.6 million sq ft of commercial floorspace.

Birmingham City Council planning chiefs will also consider a full application for a new roundabout access from the A38, roads, cycle and pedestrian paths and other works to serve the site.

The project has not been without its detractors as the land was previously classed green belt but its status was changed due to a shortage of suitable brownfield sites for a development of such size.

It is hoped the project will attract leading manufacturers and logistics companies due to its proximity to the motorway network.
