Birmingham's former Snobs building to be turned into apartments

Latest plans for run-down Beneficial Building could see it converted into new co-living complex with almost 200 units

New plans have been unveiled to turn Birmingham's Beneficial Building into a co-living complex

The former home of legendary Birmingham nightclub Snobs is set to be turned into apartments.

New plans have been lodged to convert the Beneficial Building, at the corner of Paradise Circus and Suffolk Street Queensway, into private serviced accommodation.

The proposals have been lodged by Colico Living, an Exeter-based company which specialises in city centre developments to create so-called 'co-living' schemes.

Already popular in London, it is a relatively unknown concept in Birmingham and one that promotes a sense of community among residents and is likely to prove attractive to young professionals relocating to the city.

If approved, the building will be converted into 190 self-contained studios to rent only with their own shower rooms and kitchens alongside communal facilities such as a roof terrace, kitchens and dining rooms.

Tenancies will be available for three months upwards and all bills will be included in one monthly payment.

Colico Living director Lisa Timberlake told BusinessLive: "They will be relatively small studios but there will be a lot of amenity and co-working space within the building.
