A ceremony has been held to mark the topping out of Sherlock Yard, in Sherlock Street, Birmingham

A new residential project in Birmingham city centre has reached its highest point.

Developer Watkin Jones has topped out the Sherlock Yard scheme in the Southside district which will contain 551-apartments for rent.

The complex will comprise six buildings, reaching 30 storeys at its highest point, and is due to complete in 2025. Apartments will range from one to three bedrooms and 47 units have been designated for affordable housing.

The scheme will also have a gym, co-working space, social lounges, landscaped podium and sky lounge and incorporate a public square and 16,500 sq ft of ground floor commercial space.

Originally known as Maker's Yard, Sherlock Yard was approved in 2021 and sits on a 2.5-acre site at the corner of Sherlock Street and Pershore Street next to the Smithfield development site.

It has been forward funded by property firm Get Living which will also operate the complex once it opens for residents.

Watkin Jones' group investment director George Dyer said: "This is our second scheme to top out with our partner Get Living this year as we collaborate on creating build-to-rent schemes that offer high-quality, sustainable places to live.
