Birmingham office block to undergo total facelift

Kier Property plans to turn 19 Cornwall Street into a net-zero building after major tenants vacated

CGI of plans to revamp 19 Cornwall Street, Birmingham

An office block in the heart of Birmingham's business district is to undergo a major facelift with the aim of creating a carbon net-zero workspace.

19 Cornwall Street's owner Kier Property has appointed Willmott Dixon to carry out the project to create a ‘smart-enabled' building with 139,000 sq ft of space.

There will be a central atrium with interactive breakout areas and a planted, communal roof terrace, 150-space car park with electric vehicle charging points, a multi-functional studio, 74 cycle spaces and changing rooms.

It will be Kier Property's first ever net-zero, carbon-in-operation building when it opens for tenants in late 2024.

The seven-floor office block was home for many years to financial services firm PwC and law firm Pinsent Masons but they have relocated to One Chamberlain Square and 55 Colmore Row respectively in recent years.

Kier Property also built 3 Arena Central off Broad Street which is home to a regional hub for HM Revenue & Customs.

It acquired 19 Cornwall Street in a joint venture with ARA Europe from Standard Life for £35.6 million in 2017.
