The West Midlands hotel sector has experienced huge surge in revenue 鈥 but the average room price remains below rival regions.

A BDO hotel survey found that the city鈥檚 rooms yield 鈥 the industry term for revenue 鈥 rose by 19 per cent in June, compared to an average increase of 2.4 per cent in 海角视频 regions.

Occupancy levels in the city increased by 14 per cent, to 69.2 per cent, but remain behind first quarter averages of 73.6 per cent.

The average price paid for hotel rooms in the city was 拢48.65 in June, compared to 拢74.48 in Manchester and 拢58.45 in Leeds.

However, hotels close to the airport demanded an average price of 拢90.76, one of the highest outside London and the South East.

Toby Stephenson, partner at BDO in Birmingham, said: 鈥淎lthough prices paid and occupancy levels are still quite low compared to other cities, the double digit revenue growth is positive and indicates an upturn in form for the hotel sector.

鈥淪olihull and airport footfall have contributed a lot to West Midlands鈥 performance in the last quarter.鈥

Birmingham played host to a number of popular events in June, including the Sainsbury鈥檚 Athletics Grand Prix, and Bon Jovi and Rihanna concerts, bring more people to the city.
