A Birmingham golf club has carried out a £1.6 million refurbishment of its clubhouse.

Walmley Golf Club, in Sutton Coldfield, has revamped its changing rooms and bar and extended the balcony out and around the end of the building to provide views across the course and New Hall Valley.

The clubhouse was constructed in 1965 and has only received minimal upgrades since then.

The addition of energy-saving measures, including sensor lighting, a new boiler and insulation, will reduce the club's bills while a lift and refurbished disabled toilets will also help to make the space more accessible. Walmley Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course which dates back to 1902.

The business is primarily run by volunteers but employs 14 and has several part-time hospitality staff.

The club currently has around 650 members but the team hopes the revamp will enable it to grow its membership base by at least 80 over the coming year.

Chairman Andy Mitchell said: "The feedback from members on the new facilities has been overwhelmingly positive.
