Swindon-headquartered construction firm Beard has completed work on a £2.4m surgery on one of the town’s fastest-growing housing estates.

The Tadpole Surgery will provide medical care for 8,500 patients living in the 1,695 new homes in Tadpole Garden Village to the north of the town.

The surgery was built on greenfield site which had no utilities when the project began and was finished in 46 weeks.

The £2.4m facility was opened by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson, who said: “The opening of Tadpole Surgery is a huge boost for the local community and it’s great to see it delivered by a local company."

The building has 14 consulting rooms for doctors, nurses and mental-health practitioners; a reception waiting area; office space; a staff break room; a meeting room; and showers for staff. It will be operated by the Westrop Medical Practice, which serves 30,000 patients through five surgeries in the region.

The project also included the installation of seven electric vehicle charging points and roof-based solar panels which have the capacity to power the entire building.

Beard Swindon director Jamie Harwood, said “We are always proud to deliver community facilities like this one and this much-needed surgery represents so much more than bricks and mortar.

“It will transform healthcare in the area and, thanks to the building we have constructed, provide that care in bright, modern conditions.”
